Our Story

The Journey of KEY Engineering Group - Crafting Excellence, Building Futures

Founded on December 16, 2004, KEY Engineering Group (KEY) emerged as a distinguished provider of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Engineering services. Under the visionary leadership of Kakwah Emmanuel Yuh (KEY), our founder and CEO, we swiftly established ourselves in three core areas: Engineering Design, Facilities Engineering, and Construction Quality Control.

During our early years, KEY primarily served private sector clients, particularly real estate developers. However, the challenging market conditions following the 2008 crash prompted us to adapt and refine our business strategy.

Amidst these changes, KEY encountered exceptional opportunities that propelled our growth. Notably, we undertook a prestigious facilities management project at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA), responsible for the upkeep and smooth operation of two lift stations. This experience marked a turning point, leading to our increased focus on marketing our services to the public sector. As a result, we obtained certification as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and African American Business Enterprise (AABE) with the City of Atlanta.

Our dedication and expertise led to KEY joining a joint venture working with the City of Atlanta at H-JAIA, setting the stage for our involvement in the design and construction oversight of several exciting projects. These included the illumination of Maynard Holbrook Jackson Blvd, the Park Ride parking deck at MHJIT, the South Vault expansion for taxiway SC-U, electrical design for Lift Station Phase II, electrical power modification to support A380 aircraft at Gates E1-3, and the North Airfield de-icing Facility.

Venturing beyond national borders, KEY seized international opportunities such as runway rehabilitation for Chevron in Escravos, Nigeria, and runway end-around illumination at Grand Cayman Island airport.

Between 2011 and 2012, our certifications expanded to include recognition by the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) and DeKalb County as an MBE. This opened doors to further solicitations and participation in projects such as the Peachtree DeKalb Airport Runway rehabilitation, Streetscape illumination in the City of Newnan, pump station upgrades in Fulton County, and wastewater treatment center projects.

KEY has been privileged to be a part of the Teams that were recognized by the Georgia Engineering Alliance in 2013 with a Grand Award for the Maynard-Holbrook Jackson Blvd project at new international terminal (MHJIT), the 2016 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) award winner North Airfield Deicing facility at H-JAIA, and the ACEC 2024 Engineering Excellence National Recognition Award for the 9L End Around Taxiway project at H-JAIA.

In 2017, we expanded our reach by opening a branch office in Columbia, SC, led by a seasoned branch manager with over 30 years of aviation lighting design experience. From this office, we extended our services to South Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Georgia.

Since then, we have continued to leave our mark on numerous fulfilling and intellectually stimulating projects. Notable highlights include the CPTC Backup Generator & Life Safety Code Compliance at H-JAIA, Airfield lighting and Low voltage CPTC Electrical as-builts at H-JAIA, power and lighting engineering design for the Commercial Vehicle Hold Lot at H-JAIA, Sullivan Road Park-Ride Design at H-JAIA, T-north roadway re-configuration at H-JAIA, West-Curb Improvements at H-JAIA, and the Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport Runway 4R-22L electrical engineering design.

At KEY Engineering Group, our passion for engineering excellence drives us, and our unwavering commitment to client satisfaction fuels our success. As we continue to evolve, we remain dedicated to shaping a brighter future through innovative MEP design solutions and steadfast dedication to our clients’ needs
