KEY Engineering Group (KEY) undertook the Life Safety Code Compliance Project, which involved updating the existing life safety and legally required electrical systems to meet current Code requirements. This encompassed a thorough review of codes such as NFPA 101, the Life Safety Code, the International Building Code, and NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code. KEY determined the loads that needed to be relocated to the new Life Safety and Legally Required Electrical Systems based on these codes. The project involved sizing and locating new electrical equipment, including the establishment of two-hour fire-rated electrical rooms. KEY also ensured that the selected equipment could withstand the available fault current or made adjustments as needed. Selective coordination studies were conducted to ensure proper coordination between upstream and downstream circuit breakers. Integration of standby generator sets into the existing building electrical systems was coordinated with the design team.
